<p>A genetically-engineered Death deity--
This is my entry for
's contest about what kinds of creatures will eventually replace humanity. One of these creatures will be a modified species of bird derived from the crow family. Once bred for combat on the battlefield, it is now one of the prominent sentient races on the planet.
<p>Their present role--In some cultures, aside from serving as psychopomps or "guide of souls"), they also dispose of the dead by eating the remains.
