<p>Welcome to the Alternate-Earth (Hiramesawa) 3755 of the Fourth Age of Xikka, though some historians will call it the New Renaissance. The so-called "civilized" world of Homo sapien has come to an abrupt end due largely to the deliberate spread of a human-made biological weapon, a nano-Ebola virus known formally as "Project Alpha " but most commonly as "the Red Death" because of symptoms similar to the ones described in Poe's short story of the same name . The pandemic leads directly to the death of the entire world's human population.
Their replacements are "chimeroids" or G-MOES (animals genetically modified to closely resemble humans or mythological creatures, bred as slaves or pets and generally were treated like second-class citizens by their human masters. However, their immunity to the Red Death plus their supreme intellect and psychic power made them better equipped for surviving this Holocene Extinction Event.
<p>One of these former slave races is the Gerdin. A mammalian, bipedal species with white manes, golden cat-like eyes and retractable claws, though they are small (ranging from about four feet to five feet and a half), they are immensely strong, able adapt to harsh conditions, and were once used as either laborers or as supersoldiers. Although the Gerdin vehemently deny their species is the end result of biological uplifting, and get highly insulted if told otherwise, DNA test results show a a mingling of human, lemur and feline
genomes.
<p> As well as having keener senses and lightning-fast reflexes, they have a life expectancy of about 200 years. They also have a very long period of adolescence, not reaching adulthood until about 50.
<p>Like humans, Gerdin are omnivores and thus are able to eat a wide variety of meat and plant matter. However, were they to visit our world they would suffer nutritional deficiency disorders if they tried to eat an exclusively human diet. Chemicals such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), caffeine, and tobacco are highly poisonous to Gerdin, while methane, ethanol, rubbing alcohol, asbestos, radon, and even arsenic have no effect on them.
<p>Although a creative and inventive race, they have a generalized dislike of any human-like species, believing hairless bipedal primates in general are highly depraved and their lives are "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."
<p>Of all the Gerdin states, the Oriim Archipelago is the most militant and isolationist. Strict discipline and physical toughness are encouraged at a young age, anyone not meeting the criteria of the Oriim State faces risked either banishment or euthanasia.
